Bio

Shanelle Marie credits her first acting teacher as her beloved grandmother, who would recite and bring to life the works of Paul Lawrence Dunbar and other great poets. This Columbus Ohio native further developed her interest in theatre while attending Fort Hayes Metropolitan School of Performing Arts. She has gone on to study theatre at the Miami University and performed in productions including Anowa, and Lorraine Hansberry’s The Drinking Gourd. Shanelle’s favorite moments on stage include performing the monologue, At Emmy Time, in front of its creator, Ruby Dee, as part of a tribute to her and poets Mari Evans, Nikki Giovanni and Sonia Sanchez; actress-director Val Gray Ward; and singer-songwriter Odetta; at The King Arts Complex’s new “Legends and Legacies,”awards. Coincidently, she also played "Ruth" in A Raisin in the Sun, a role that Ruby Dee originated.

Select productions include, Good People with New Players Theatre), Available Light Theatre Company's Attempts on Her Life, and To Kill a Mockingbird, The Boxcar Children with Columbus Children's Theatre.
